Steven’s Point writer Patrick Rothfuss hit a literary grand slam this week. His new novel debuted at number one on the New York Times bestseller list. It’s called The Wise Man’s Fear – a thousand-page epic fantasy in the tradition of JRR Tolkien, full of magical landscapes and fantastic creatures. Where does an epic fantasy writer get his inspiration? Rothfuss says a lot of it comes from right here – the Wisconsin landscape he calls home.

Writer Patrick Rothfuss teaches English at the UW-Steven’s Point. His new novel is called The Wise Man’s Fear.
